Student will practice verbal skills by recording a set of functional phrases (i.e., "I am hungry," or "Can you help me?") that communicate daily needs.
Notes or alternative audio or video recording software. Notes is found on the TouchSmart home page. First, click on the house in the lower, left corner of the desktop. For more detailed instructions, see HP’s Notes tutorial.
Create a short list of basic commands and requests that the individual may want to communicate throughout the day.
1. Write a phrase on a piece of paper that is large enough to read easily. Choose commands that are short and meaningful to the individual.
2. Open the Notes application in the HP TouchSmart interface.
3. Open a new note, and select either the “Record” or “Video” option.
4. Ask the individual to speak into the computer, and record the sentence. Press “Record” and begin. Press “Finished” when done.
5. Press “Play” and listen. Allow the individual to replay the recording. To make another recording, start a new note.
6. Label the note using the paintbrush option.
May include increased use of verbal communication.
