using web-based games
Learn and demonstrate letter recognition.
Develop preliteracy skills, such as letter recognition, to build a necessary foundation for learning to read fluently, understanding content, and spelling.
Websites such as www.pbskids.org, www.starfall.com, www.talkingchild.com and www.monarchteachtech.com for VizZle (requires subscription).
Select any of the letter-recognition games on these websites. Helpful phrases include “Show me/point to the letter that I say” and “What letter is this?”
It might take some trial and error to find the activities that work best with your child or student. You may also want to consider low-tech teaching methods. Consider selecting age-appropriate activities that will maintain the individual’s interest.
One way to chart progress is to note which letters your child can consistently recognize.
