select from multiple options using pictures, icons or word choices
Objective:

Student will select desired item or response from two or more options.

Rationale:

Simple selection allows someone to use pointing skills to communicate by choosing a response from two or more choices. This may include yes/no, picture icons of basic wants and needs or various task options.

Basic Instructions:

Paste pictures, icons or words onto a fresh page using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or another program of your choice. Begin with two options and increase the number of choices as the child’s ability grows. Sebran’s ABC also provides a simple selection game (download from www.wartoft.nu/software/sebran/).

Things to Consider:
Include basic wants and needs. Consider age-appropriate pictures.

Progress:

Progress may include increasing accuracy in the child’s response to questions, growing ability to communicate basic wants and needs, growing ability to choose from more options and initiating communication.
