Building Upon Strengths, Overcoming Weaknesses
One very creative student loves to draw, write stories and make books. However, he was disinterested in academics because it was difficult for him to understand the curriculum in his fifth-grade class. He was particularly overwhelmed by all the details in his textbooks, until he began making PowerPoint slide shows to learn the vocabulary and keywords in his lessons. This tool built his understanding and engaged his interest in the classwork. Now he is academically motivated, his writing has markedly improved and he is creating art, comic strips and books using the computer.
